BIOGRAPHY
Susan Brown has a Master of Science degree from the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo. While at school, she specialized in the area of neurobehavioural assessment, psychomotor behaviour and motor control. She spent her first work-term in the cooperative education option in the undergraduate Kinesiology program with the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP) and has been involved with the Functional Abilities Program (FAP) in different capacities since September 2001. Little did she know when she began working with these programs that she would be collaborating with them as component programs of the RIA after graduating!
Susan began working with the RIA as a volunteer in January 2006, helping with the Seniors' Health Research Transfer Network (SHRTN) initiative. She then acted as the Coordinator of Research and Professional Development with Oakwood Retirement Communities and The Village of Winston Park from May 2006 to August 2007, covering a maternity leave. Her involvement in Oakwood's professional development program during that year as well as her continued involvement with the RIA prepared her for a full-time position as Research Associate with the RIA, beginning in August 2007.
Susan's role involves supporting researchers as they begin their studies in the Winston/Oakwood family of homes, and then helping the researchers translate their research findings into practical programs that can be implemented at the facility level.
